“Press Start,” is deeply rooted in my personal story and an exploration of community and competition. Growing up playing videogames with nieghbors and meeting people from other countries, it felt normal. It was always fun and enjoyable to me. What a surprise it was when I grew up to find so much negativity around videogames. My goal is to break down the stigma of videogames and esports, inviting new players to be apart of this wonderful community. Through extensive research, I discovered some of the reasoning behind the negative stigma. From mainstream media attempting to link violence, laziness and other negative affects to gamers to the total faliures to enter the mainstream publicity, it’s no wonder there is so much negativity. Many false narratives arise from these factors. I hope my space tells my store, the people I have met and played with. It just goes to show how connected we are as a species, and I hope that will influence others to start their story. To start playing games, meeting people throughout the world in a way which would have never been possible not long ago. So follow me on my journey through my capstone.

The wall is covered with my online friends. I have been playing video games since I was very little, but started playing on a computer late 2016 where I started adding friends. Out of nearly 300 friends on my steam friends list, about 160 made it to that wall. I focused on people I at least recognized, I don’t remember all of them. As you can see, many of them are black and white, only a few are in color, what gives? I wanted to make sure those important to me stood out. People who have inspired, helped, or have just been around for a while, are in full color, with there real name, in-game name, and date added in a list to the side. Now I don’t know every single persons name thats in color. Out of the 28 people in the list, can you name the 5 that are fake? If you want to play just email me your guess!
